About the Area

Millbridge is located in South Charlotte in the quaint town of Waxhaw in Union County. Union County is one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina and has the state's second highest median household income. Known for excellent schools, a reasonable cost of living, and a variety of housing choices, Union County is no longer Charlotte's best kept secret. The town of Waxhaw provides the ideal backdrop for small town living, with big city accessibility. Its proximity to Providence Road and Hwy 521 provides easy access to all the major employment centers of Charlotte, as well as excellent shopping and dining. In 20 minutes, our residents can be in the Ballantyne area enjoying the upscale retail and entertainment venues.

City Overview

Charlotte is a city known for its southern hospitality and its trademark trees. Alive with blooms in the spring and colorful foliage in the fall, Charlotte enjoys a high quality of life with temperate weather, a plethora of outdoor recreational activities, excellent schools, numerous opportunities for continuing education, first class health care, and a wide variety of sporting and cultural events. Culture/Entertainment

Whether you are a sports fan or a supporter of the arts, Charlotte has something to offer. With two professional sports teams, the Carolina Panthers football team and the Charlotte Bobcats basketball team, you can always find a game to watch. Don't forget about the Charlotte Knights minor league baseball and Charlotte Checkers hockey team too. And Charlotte's biggest claim to fame - it's the home to NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Check out the new NASCAR Museum uptown or the endless supply of art galleries. Education

Charlotte has many options for higher education. With 34 colleges and universities, including Queens College, Davidson College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Central Piedmont Community College, there are numerous options for undergraduate and graduate studies. Johnston and Wales Culinary School is located uptown and has options for both full time education and continuing education.

Medical

Two of the largest hospital systems in the southeast are in Charlotte. Carolinas HealthCare System and Presbyterian Healthcare have multiple hospital locations across the Charlotte metro area, including the state of the art Levine's Children's Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center. With a wide range of specialists and nationally recognized teaching and research institutions, the spectrum of services available to area residents continues to grow, while the cost of health care remains below the national average.

Recreation

If you enjoy spending time outdoors, check out the National Whitewater Center or one of the many parks throughout Charlotte for hiking, mountain biking, or picnicking. Head north to Lake Norman or south to Lake Wylie for water sports, boating, and fishing. Located in the Piedmont Region, Charlotte is within a two hour drive of one of the beautiful national parks and forests, letting you enjoy the mountain views, fall colors, and winter sports. Hop in your car and head east to visit the North Carolina Outerbanks and its many pristine beaches.

Schools

The Union County Public School System (UCPS) is nationally recognized for its academic performance. Ninety percent of Union County public schools made the top three highest state test score designations. SAT scores are consistently above the state and national averages. Please remember to confirm school assignments directly with UCPS. Current School assignments for Millbridge are as follows: Kensington Elementary (located adjacent to Millbridge) (704-849-7238), Marvin Ridge Middle School (704-814-9772), and Marvin Ridge High School (704-708-5530).

Shopping

There are plenty of shopping, dining, and recreational opportunities within a short drive of Millbridge. Residents can shop for groceries and household necessities within five minutes of the community at the Cureton Town Center. Or take a quick 10 minute drive to Waxhaw to take advantage of the shopping and dining in the quaint downtown area. Head up Hwy 521 to Ballantyne to enjoy all the shopping and entertainment amenities of South Charlotte. Catch a movie and al fresco dinner at nearby Stonecrest and Ballantyne Village shopping centers. Work on your golf game or enjoy a day at the spa at the Ballantyne Resort, or head to the gym or outside for some biking or jogging at the Sports Connections and Peak Fitness, nearby Morrison YMCA, or the 521 District Park Recreation Center. Major retailers, local boutiques, and Carolina Place Mall are all within a 20 minute drive.

Transportation

Charlotte is located at the crossroads of I-77 and I-85 near the North Carolina and South Carolina border. With an average of 644 airline flights daily, Charlotte Douglas International Airport provides easy access to both the US and internationally, with non-stop service to 127 destinations. The Charlotte LYNX light-rail system gives South Charlotte residents a quick alternative to commuting uptown, and the CATS bus system provides public transportation options throughout the city.
