    About the Area

    St. Charles, located just West of St. Louis County and 30 miles from downtown St. Louis, is a major suburban area for St. Louis. This Missouri River-side town, known as one of the last stops for Lewis and Clark before they began their journey across the country, is full of history and culture. Historical downtown St. Charles is one of the cities highlights. Quaint cobblestone roads and gas-fueled streetlights adorn the Main Street area, which is a unique stretch of antique shops, specialty gift and novelty stores, as well as restaurants and bars.

    Education

    Brighton Park neighborhood falls in the boundaries for St. Charles School District with some of the area's top schools: • Harris Elementary • Jefferson Middle School • St. Charles West High School • It's also located just a few miles from Lindenwood University, a 4-year liberal arts institution.

    Recreation

    One significant draw for residents is nearby the RecPlex. This superior fitness facility is equipped with a world-class aquatics center, three gymnasiums, an NHL-sized ice rink, fitness and spinning rooms, and two food courts. The RecPlex has served as host to a number of prestigious athletic events, including Olympic aquatic events in both 1994 and 2004. Wapelhorst Park has a large public water park with multiple slides and pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, walking paths, and lots of public park ground.

    Shopping

    Target and Home Depot are two anchor stores in the large retail area, located less than a mile from Brighton Park. Mid Rivers Mall is a short 10 minute drive from the community.

    Culture / Entertainment

    The historic area 13 block stretch of Main Street in St. Charles is famous for cobblestone streets, gas-lit streetlights, specialty shops, antique stores and quaint restaurants. Located adjacent to the Missouri River and Frontier Park, this area is celebrated as the beginning of Lewis and Clark's journey to the Pacific Ocean in 1804. A number of festivals and concerts throughout the summer months gather both locals and tourists alike. Holding 20,000 guests, Verizon Wireless Amphitheate is an outdoor venue that hosts major concert events in the area. A wide variety of performers take the stage each summer at the Amphitheater from Toby Keith to REO Speedwagon. The Family Arena is also nearby. As a mid-sized venue, the Arena is popular for smaller concerts and tradeshows. For sports fans nothing beats catching a River City Rascals ballgame. Fans crowd T.R. Hughes Ballpark between May and September to watch the minor league baseball team take on their Frontier league opponents. Over 5,000 fans can crowd into the open-air ballpark on a given game day. The Harrah's and Ameristar Casinos are located on the Missouri River in close proximity to the neighborhood. They are well-known for their state-of-the-art casino facilities, four-star restaurants and nightlife activities.

    Medical

    Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and the largest private employer in the St. Louis region.
