About the Area

The Village of Minooka was founded in 1869 along the route of the Rock Island Railroad.  In the 1960's, Interstate 80 was built, including a ramp to the village, making transportation much easier and convenient. With easy access to I-80, housing continues to expand in the village and is currently comprised of a mixture of distinctive, mature residences and newly constructed homes.

Culture/Entertainment

With a quick trip to Joliet, you will be at the Rialto Square Theatre that hosts theatrical productions, dance performances, musical concerts, bridal expos, comedy shows and travel cinema.  If you're a sports enthusiast, visit Silver Cross Field in Downtown Joliet where you can watch a baseball game with the Joliet JackHammers.

Education

For continuing educational opportunities, residents may attend the nation's first public community college, Joliet Junior College.  Here, residents can take advantage of pre-baccalaureate programs in preparation for transferring to a four-year university. Also nearby, Romeoville is home to Lewis University, the state's 11th largest private university.

Medical

Medical facilities in the area include Provena St. Joseph Medical Center, a 475-bed healthcare facility that ranks among the best hospitals in the country. Morris Hospital and Healthcare Centers are also nearby Summerfield of Minooka.

Recreation

State parks, forest preserves, wildlife areas and a variety of festivals throughout the year are only the beginning of all that can be enjoyed in and around the Village of Minooka.  The Channahon Park District maintains 19 parks and oversees facilities offering golf, racquetball, aerobics, volleyball, basketball, fitness centers and much more.  To cool off during the summer, check out the Tomahawk Aquatic Center which is home to a six-lane, 25-yard pool; a spray/play area designed for smaller children; a 150-foot waterslide and sand volleyball court. Fun for the outdoor enthusiast can be found at the Channahon State Park where there is hiking and biking trails as well as sites for fishing and picnicking.  Stay fit at Dimensions Fitness Center located at the Channahon Park District or at Peak Fitness on Ridge Road.  For those who love to golf, there are four golf courses within Minooka to practice your swing. Take the family to Splash Station to enjoy the pool, waterslides, and lazy river.
